About Me

I’m the woman behind Rae of Sunshine. My actual full name is Naomi Wharton, but I go by the name Naomi Rae as my creative muse. The origin of Naomi is Hebrew, and it means pleasant. My second name is Rachel hence the nickname Rae but there’s more to it than that.  

I decided to use Rae as it echoes my identity and my self-development journey, I have been on for the past 3 years. Funnily enough I’ve always loved Rae as a nickname, it took me a while to realise that this has always formed a part of mine. 

You’re probably wondering why I’ve spent such a long introduction on the origin of my names. Simply because it carries weight and the same with you. That’s why it’s important what we call ourselves and the names we call others.

I’m currently a Design Coordinator working in the Property and Construction industry. I studied Interior Architecture and Design and during this time I also fell in love with Graphic Design which I then started to do some freelance work in. 

I started this blog in order to share the essence of my heart and to give encouragement to people. Writing has become such a vital outlet for me as I find it most comforting to express in this capacity. I have a way with words in this form more than I do talking. But honestly, I’ve always been a writer - even in my youth I used to write songs and perform them in the playground. You would never believe how quiet, shy and introverted I was – even to this day!

Communication is something I’ve struggled with from childhood and I only really dived into this part of my life when I went to therapy for my anxiety and depression. The theme of communication was so heavy, and patterns were emerging which made a lot of sense – unpacking stories, experiences and traumas allowed me to understand why I was the way that I am.

Spirituality was also a massive part of my healing. I neglected this area of my life and noticed how much it was affecting many aspects because I wasn’t walking in my truth. So, I will be sharing, spiritual words and encouragement, revealing how God speaks to me.

I will also be tapping into the topics of mental health in future blog posts as well as sharing my experiences, what helped me, day to day life, things I’m passionate about and what I believe I can give advice on.
